2. Why Should I Volunteer ... ?

There are probably several things that you do that compensate you, in your life. Being paid money for some of the things you do in your life isn't always the answer. THE VOLUNTEERS OF THE SQUAD ARE REWARDED BY THE SELF SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THEY ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE. We have a feeling of satisfaction knowing that we help our fellow community members. Having the skills and the knowledge to make a real difference in someone's life is enough to motivate the current, dedicated members of the squad and continue their training and volunteering. Serving on the squad is a excellent, real time experience for many other career choices. The knowledge that you will gain in our organization will have value in all aspects of life.

3. How Old ... ?

The minimum age for joining the squad is 16. At age 16, you are classified a "Youth Squad Member", until the age of 18. When you reach the age of 18, you are then appointed to the senior squad. Youth squad members are a very important part of the squad, for they are the future of the organization. Youth squad members can attend the EMS Training classes. However, they are limited in certain areas. Currently, we have members ranging form 16-55, the average age being 27.

4. How Much Time ... ?

The State of New Jersey and Maywood First Aid & Emergency Squad requires that you attend a EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) class that is about 120 hours long and approximately 3 months in length. Then the squad requires that the member make at least 50 calls a year, make a weekly night duty night, a rotation weekend duty night. When running your duty night you are permitted to stay at your home, or work, or wherever it is no further than 3 minutes or 3 miles away from squad headquarters. The member is also required to attend the monthly meeting (the third Monday of every month, 8:00pm) and the monthly drill (the fourth Monday of every month, 8:00PM.) There is always more opportunities to volunteer time with squad, what is listed above is just the minimum.
